Zimbabwean agri-fintech startup Maminda is developing a digital platform that brings agricultural finance, AI-powered advisory services, crop monitoring, and market access together in a single ecosystem aimed at smallholder farmers. Founded in 2025, the startup focuses on addressing some of the biggest challenges facing small-scale agriculture by combining digital financial tools with precision farming technologies.

Zimbabwean agri-fintech startup Maminda is developing a digital platform that brings agricultural finance, AI-powered advisory services, crop monitoring, and market access together in a single ecosystem aimed at smallholder farmers.
Founded in 2025, the startup focuses on addressing some of the biggest challenges facing small-scale agriculture by combining digital financial tools with precision farming technologies. Its platform provides farmers with personalised crop recommendations, satellite-based crop monitoring, alternative credit profiling, and direct links to buyers and agricultural input suppliers.
A key component of the platform is Smart Digital Mukando, a digital savings and cooperative financing system that enables farmers to save collectively, access financing, and build financial records that can improve future access to credit.
According to founder and CEO Maminda Edward Gandanzara, the platform supports farmers throughout the agricultural production cycle rather than solving a single problem.
“Maminda operates across the entire agricultural value chain, supporting farmers from season planning and input financing through production, monitoring and post-harvest marketing,” he said.
Solving Multiple Challenges for Smallholder Farmers
Smallholder farmers produce much of Africa’s food supply, yet many remain excluded from formal financial systems because they lack documented credit histories. Limited access to finance often prevents them from purchasing quality inputs, adopting modern farming practices, or accessing higher-value markets.
Rather than offering standalone advisory or financing services, Maminda integrates multiple functions into one platform tailored to the realities of smallholder farming.
“Most existing solutions address only one challenge at a time, whether agronomic advisory, agricultural financing or market access. Maminda’s approach is to integrate these services into a single platform designed around the realities of smallholder farming,” Gandanzara explained.
The company enters a competitive agri-fintech market that includes regional players such as Apollo Agriculture, but says its combination of cooperative financing, AI-based credit assessment, satellite crop intelligence, and marketplace services remains relatively uncommon within Zimbabwe.
Pilot Phase Sets Foundation for Regional Growth
Currently self-funded, Maminda is preparing to raise pre-seed capital to accelerate product development, expand pilot programmes, and support future market growth.
Although the company has already received several industry awards, it remains in the pilot phase. The platform is currently being tested with fewer than 100 farmers across Mashonaland and Manicaland as the team validates product-market fit and refines both its financial and agronomic models.
“The company currently has fewer than 100 active users. At this stage, the focus is on learning, validation and measurable farmer outcomes rather than rapid user acquisition,” Gandanzara said.
Maminda’s immediate focus remains Zimbabwe, but its medium-term expansion strategy includes neighbouring agricultural markets such as Zambia and Malawi before extending into other parts of Southern and Eastern Africa.
The startup plans to generate revenue through marketplace transaction fees, financing services, software subscriptions for agricultural organisations, and data analytics offerings for agribusinesses and financial institutions. It is currently pre-revenue as it continues validating the platform through pilot deployments.
