Pan-African innovation hub network AfriLabs has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Algeria-based Algerian Ecosystem Network (EYCONET) to expand its investment deal room and strengthen access to funding for startups in North Africa. The partnership will use the AfriLabs Connect Deal Room, a platform designed to support structured deal sourcing and help startups become investment-ready. Under the agreement, EYCONET will serve as AfriLabs’ local partner in Algeria, identifying, verifying and qualifying high-growth startups for inclusion in the ACDR pipeline.

Connecting Algerian Startups to Investors

The partnership is intended to give selected Algerian startups greater visibility among investors and access to investment opportunities across Africa and international markets. EYCONET will contribute its knowledge of Algeria’s startup ecosystem to identify companies with growth potential, while AfriLabs will provide the digital infrastructure through which qualified startups can enter the wider investment pipeline.

The two organisations also plan to strengthen links with institutions and organisations supporting startup development in Algeria and the wider North African market. With support from the Algerian Ministry of Knowledge Economy, selected startups could also gain access to regional and continental opportunities, including events such as the African Startup Conference (ASC).

Building a Stronger Deal Pipeline

The agreement also builds on EYCONET’s work with the Algerian Startup Fund, linking the partnership to existing efforts to support financing and growth for Algerian startups. By combining EYCONET’s local ecosystem knowledge with AfriLabs’ continental investment infrastructure, the organisations aim to improve the quality and consistency of startups entering the investment pipeline.

For startups, the partnership is intended to provide access to funding, new markets and connections with businesses and government institutions. It also gives investors a structured pipeline of startups that have already gone through a local identification and qualification process.

EYCONET is an Algeria-based ecosystem network focused on entrepreneurship, startup development and innovation. The partnership with AfriLabs expands its role in connecting Algerian startups to investment and business opportunities beyond the domestic market.

These Kenyan startups raised millions before shutting down. What happened?

Kenya's startup market has produced some big funding rounds. It has also produced some expensive failures. Sendy, Copia, Gro Intelligence, KOKO Networks, MarketForce, Lipa Later, iProcure, Kune, Bonto, Mobius Motors and Notify Logistics all raised significant amounts of money before shutting down, entering administration or going through liquidation. Together, the companies raised more than $500
