Nedbank Launches 2025 YouthX Awards for Entrepreneurs
YouthX by Nedbank has just announced its annual YouthX Awards, an opportunity for South Africa’s bold, ambitious, and forward-thinking youth to redefine their futures. Now in its fifth year, YouthX continues to serve as more than an award programme. Instead, it functions as an inclusive platform for young people who have felt overlooked, unheard, or underestimated to step forward, share their stories, and transform their ideas into impactful ventures.
Theme for 2025: Unlock Your X
This year’s theme, “Unlock Your X,” invites participants to explore what makes them distinct whether a specific skill, passion, or goal. Importantly, the theme encourages self-discovery and purpose-driven action. According to the organisers, the “X” represents each individual’s catalyst for change, both personal and social. As such, Nedbank is offering young people access to resources that help convert their talents into long-term value for themselves and their communities.
Programme Objectives and Strategic Vision
“YouthX, and specifically the YouthX Awards, aims to nurture bold ideas and reshape individual futures,” says John Makgato, Head of Youth Strategy and Client Value Proposition at Nedbank. “We are creating a platform where talent, determination, and perseverance receive recognition, and where young entrepreneurs find the support, they need to reach their full potential.”
Ultimately, the programme strives to inspire a new generation of changemakers.
Evaluation Criteria
In terms of selection, judges will assess entries based on creativity, innovation, and their impact on communities. Moreover, the top 10 finalists will gain not only financial backing but also essential tools, mentorship, and networks that will help bring their ventures to life.
Testimony from a Previous Award Recipient
“The YouthX Awards gave me more than just a platform. It gave my business visibility, real momentum, and a renewed sense of purpose. Recognition validated my vision and gave me the confidence to dream bigger and move faster. It reminded me that we, the youth, are not just the future we’re the now and that our ideas, our hustle, and our impact truly matter,” says Brandon Mashaba, 2024 YouthX Award winner and founder of Reagile Gaming Interactions.
Programme Milestone: Five-Year Anniversary
As YouthX celebrates five years of recognising and supporting youth-led initiatives, Nedbank reflects on the programme’s growing impact. “We are proud to celebrate the many stories of resilience, innovation, and empowerment that have emerged through YouthX,” adds Makgato. “This reflects Nedbank’s ongoing commitment to developing young leaders, entrepreneurs, and changemakers across South Africa.”
Indeed, the anniversary marks a significant milestone in the initiative’s journey.
Eligibility and Key Dates
To participate, applicants must be South African citizens between the ages of 18 and 26. The entry period runs from 1 July to 31 August 2025. During this time, eligible finalists will stand a chance to receive up to R200,000 in funding, tailored mentorship, and access to a supportive community that values youth-led innovation and resilience
Participation Requirements
This initiative is open to qualifying Nedbank account holders within the specified age group. Therefore, participants are encouraged to register and actively engage with the process in order to take full advantage of the opportunities offered by the programme.
A Platform for Change
The YouthX Awards represent more than a competition. Rather, they offer a platform to empower youth, promote participation in economic development, and unlock the potential of every young South African. For this reason, interested individuals are encouraged to take part, share their visions, and contribute meaningfully to their communities and the broader national landscape.
