X Expands Access to xAI's Grok Chatbot for Premium Users

Social Network X is expanding access to xAI’s Grok chatbot, extending its availability to Premium tier subscribers following an announcement by Elon Musk last month. The company disclosed on its support page that only Premium and Premium+ users in select regions will have the opportunity to interact with the chatbot.

Previously, xAI introduced Grok exclusively to Premium+ subscribers, who pay either $16 per month or a $168 per year subscription fee. With the latest update, users subscribed to the $8 per month tier can also access the chatbot’s functionalities.

Grok offers users the choice between two modes: “Regular mode” and “Fun mode.” Similar to other Large Language Model (LLM) products, Grok displays labels indicating the potential for inaccurate responses.

Recently, Social Network X introduced a new explore view within Grok, allowing users to access summaries of trending news stories. Notably, competitors such as Jeff Bezos’s project and NVIDIA-backed Perplexity AI also offer similar features for news summarization.

However, Grok distinguishes itself by not only summarizing news stories but also generating headlines. As noted by Mashable, the chatbot generated a fabricated headline claiming “Iran Strikes Tel Aviv with Heavy Missiles.”

Elon Musk’s push to expand Grok’s user base is likely aimed at competing with other AI-driven products such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini, and Anthropic’s Claude. Musk has publicly criticized OpenAI’s operations in recent months and even initiated legal action against the company in March, alleging a deviation from its non-profit objectives. In response, OpenAI has moved to dismiss Musk’s claims and released email exchanges between the Tesla CEO and the organization.

As Social Network X continues to enhance its AI-driven offerings, the expansion of Grok’s accessibility underscores the platform’s commitment to innovation and meeting the evolving needs of its user base.
