Vodacom Adds Amazon Prime to Selected Mobile and Fibre Plans

Vodacom customers on selected post-paid and home internet plans will soon receive Amazon Prime as part of their subscriptions. The announcement comes as Amazon prepares for its first Prime Day event in South Africa. Until now, Vodacom’s partnership with Amazon has focused on Prime Video. This time, customers will have access to the full Prime membership. That includes free same day and next-day delivery in major cities, Prime Video, member-only deals, early access to Prime Day sales and Amazon Luna cloud gaming.
Different plans, different offers
The offer depends on the package. Customers on Red Flexi plans get three months of Amazon Prime at no extra cost, while Red Core subscribers receive 12 months. After the free period ends, the subscription renews at R59 a month. Red VIP, qualifying fibre and home internet customers will continue to receive Amazon Prime as part of their plans, provided they remain eligible. The offer also extends to customers who sign up for qualifying fibre, home internet or mobile broadband packages from August. Prepaid customers are not left out entirely. They will be able to subscribe to Amazon Prime using airtime instead of a bank card.
The price stays the same
Vodacom is not offering Amazon Prime at a lower monthly price. Amazon already charges R59 a month for a standalone Prime subscription in South Africa. The difference is that some Vodacom customers receive longer free access, while others have the subscription included with their mobile or broadband plans. Vodacom and Amazon have worked together since 2020, when the operator introduced Prime Video to its customers. Prime Video Mobile Edition followed two years later. This is the first time the partnership has included the full Prime membership. For Vodacom, the addition gives customers another reason to stay on its higher end plans. For Amazon, it puts Prime in front of more South Africans only weeks after the membership programme launched locally.
