Trend Micro Incorporated (TYO: 4704; TSE: 4704), a global leader in cybersecurity, has announced significant enhancements to its platform, incorporating advanced AI-powered functionality aimed at securing organizational use of AI and managing the associated risks of widespread AI adoption.

As the RSA Conference 2024 approaches, Trend Micro’s Co-founder and CEO, Eva Chen, is steering the company’s market-leading cybersecurity platform towards addressing these new challenges. Trend researchers will also present two talks on AI threat intelligence at the conference.

Eva Chen emphasized, “Great advancements in technology always come with new cyber risks. Like cloud and every other leap in technology we have secured, the promise of the AI era is only powerful if protected. Our latest platform updates deliver new efficiencies to security teams and provide critical guidelines for AI use.”

Securing the AI Journey

Trend Micro is introducing new capabilities to protect individuals accessing public or private generative AI services within organizations. The updates to Trend Vision One™ – Zero Trust Secure Access (ZTSA) ensure the company’s continued leadership in securing AI services and their users across enterprises:

  • Centralized management of employee access and usage of AI applications
  • Prompt inspection to prevent data leaks and malicious injections
  • Content filtering to meet compliance requirements
  • Defense against large language model (LLM) attacks

Building on years of using AI to enhance customer protection, these new capabilities in Trend Vision One™ address the human risks associated with AI usage. These updates complement existing features that contextualize alerts, decode complex scripts, power threat hunting queries, eradicate credential phishing, and recommend customized response actions.

Trend Micro has also provided expert guidance to the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) on potential revisions to its Zero Trust Maturity Model (ZTMM), aimed at helping organizations secure emerging tech integrations in their projects.

Dave Gruber, Principal Analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group, commented, “In addition to establishing and refining AI governance policies, security teams need effective mechanisms to identify, monitor, and implement controls for AI usage at both the individual and enterprise levels. Security vendors like Trend Micro, with extensive experience in AI and a proven record of delivering solutions for network, web, and cloud controls, are well positioned to help security teams enable the rapid adoption of AI to accelerate business objectives securely.”

Trend Micro upholds a robust responsible AI model, believing that all security vendors must ensure technologies are developed and used ethically, transparently, and accountably. The cyber risks associated with AI extend to security vendors themselves.

As a trusted partner to global law enforcement and security advisory committees, Trend Micro has provided guidance to CISA on its Zero Trust Maturity Model (ZTMM) and is a proud signatory of the “Tech Accord to Combat Deceptive Use of AI in 2024 Elections” to fight misinformation.

These advancements position Trend Micro at the forefront of cybersecurity, ensuring that as AI technology evolves, it does so securely and responsibly.

Africa is getting more Big Tech investment, but the basics are still holding it back

Google, Meta, Microsoft, Amazon and Starlink are putting more money into Africa's digital infrastructure. Subsea cables are reaching more parts of the continent, satellite internet is expanding and cloud companies are adding services for African customers. For businesses that have spent years dealing with unreliable connections, that is useful. There is still a problem underneath
