Investment Structure and Focus

In its first phase, BTF will deploy US$6.4 million. Of this amount, US$1.3 million is allocated to pre-seed startups to support founders at the idea and validation stage. Beyond early funding, the fund is structured to continue backing companies as they grow. This approach allows it to remain involved as startups expand into later stages.

The strategy builds on Botswana’s stable macroeconomic environment and consistent governance. It also draws on the country’s high internet penetration. Together, these factors support the development of scalable technology businesses across the region.

Partnerships and Fund Backing

Alongside its investment strategy, the fund is set up through a partnership between venture capital operators and family office investors. Launch Africa Ventures will act as the investment adviser during the first phase, bringing experience in early-stage investing across the continent. At the same time, Pula Investments serves as the anchor investor, providing the initial capital required for deployment.

Beyond the initial rollout, the fund is targeting US$64 million in total commitments. Reaching this level would position BTF as a stronger source of capital for both early-stage and growth-stage startups in Southern Africa. This matters in a region where access to funding remains limited.

To support deal flow and strengthen its local presence, BTF has partnered with the Botswana Innovation Hub. Through this collaboration, portfolio companies will gain access to infrastructure, networks, and a steady pipeline of opportunities. In addition, the partnership connects the fund more closely to Botswana’s broader innovation ecosystem, giving founders access to support beyond funding.

Together, the companies raised more than $500
