EXPANDING 5G CONNECTIVITY COMPLEMENTED BY RENEWABLE ENERGY INITIATIVES

Mobile and telecommunications companies like MTN Zambia and Airtel have also committed to bringing in more inclusive and reliable connectivity under their 5G network Expansion programs, which are currently only accessible in the major and urban towns of Lusaka, Kitwe, Ndola and Copperbelt.

The improved connectivity is highly anticipated to increase speed and reduce the time it takes for SMEs to access digital tools through improved service connectivity.

Demand for network expansion from SMEs to access quality digital technological tools means demand for the much-needed energy to drive the expansions of the telecoms network systems. Hence, in a bid to address this energy demand fueled by technological advancements, there is the Choma Solar Power Station project, which is set to contribute sixty megawatts to the national grid upon its completion in 2025.

This initiative not only aims to boost connectivity but is also part of the government’s green energy program, which supports renewable energy alternatives. The program aims to address the country’s power shortages while ensuring reliable electricity for rural businesses to still access their digital tools through a modernized digital infrastructure.
