Standard Bank and SACCI Empower KZN SMEs for Global Trade

KwaZulu Natal (KZN) holds a natural advantage as a coastal trade hub, yet many of its small and medium enterprises (SMEs) remain disconnected from global markets. Complex export regulations, limited access to funding, and insufficient trade experience continue to block international expansion. A new partnership between Standard Bank Business and Commercial Banking and the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SACCI) aims to change that.
A Strategic Programme for Inclusive Growth
The newly launched Export Readiness Programme targets 20 high potential KZN based SMEs, equipping them with the tools and training needed to participate in international trade. Built on the foundation of Standard Bank’s Enterprise and Supplier Development (ESD) platform, the initiative offers a powerful blend of funding, export certification training, and access to new markets.
Practical Support for Global Trade Success
Participating SMEs will benefit from hands on export compliance training, access to trade finance and funding solutions, and market opportunities made possible through Standard Bank’s African footprint and SACCI’s international networks. This end to end support model is tailored to help businesses not only enter global markets but also sustain and scale their operations abroad.
Empowering Black Owned Enterprises
A key focus of the programme is the empowerment of black owned SMEs. By ensuring these businesses are included in global value chains, the initiative contributes to inclusive economic transformation. It helps level the playing field and create lasting opportunities for entrepreneurs from previously marginalized communities.
A Partnership Built for Long Term Impact
SACCI’s role as South Africa’s largest business chamber adds depth to the programme, offering SMEs access to advocacy, policy support, and international business connections. With decades of experience in enterprise development, SACCI is a critical ally in helping businesses navigate global expansion.
Building a Resilient, Export-Driven Economy
“SMEs in KZN are ambitious and capable but they need the right ecosystem to grow internationally,” says Naledzani Mosomane, Head of Enterprise and Supplier Development at Standard Bank. “This programme delivers that by offering practical tools and strategic partnerships.”
Alan Mukoki, SACCI’s CEO, echoes this vision: “South Africa’s economic future depends on unlocking the potential of our SMEs. This partnership with Standard Bank is a pipeline to global markets for KZN businesses that are ready to take the next step.” By enabling SMEs to expand beyond borders, the Export Readiness Programme contributes to a more diverse and resilient national economy. It represents more than just a training programme it’s a gateway to global opportunity, transformation, and inclusive economic success for all.
