Rain Announces Price Hikes for Grandfathered Uncapped 4G Services

Rain, a prominent telecom operator, has informed its customers about upcoming price adjustments for their grandfathered uncapped 4G services, set to take effect on their May billing date.

The operator cited inflation as the primary reason behind the price increase, stating, “In line with inflation, we are updating our prices,” in a communication to subscribers.

According to a Rain spokesperson, the average price hike across these plans will be approximately 6.8%.

Specifically, Rain’s 19-hour off-peak 4G for any device package will undergo a price surge of over 7.5%, rising from R265 to R285 per month. This plan caters to existing subscribers, offering them uncapped connectivity during off-peak hours from 23:00 to 18:00.

Likewise, Rain’s regular 4G for any device product will witness a 7.2% increase, climbing from R499 to R535 per month. Meanwhile, its 4G phones-only service is slated for a 6.27% hike, ascending from R319 to R339 per month.

Rain ceased the sale of these products in May of the previous year when it introduced its Rain One product suite, marking the launch of a fully-fledged national mobile network. The Rain One packages, which incorporate fixed 5G and two mobile 4G SIMs, start at R559 monthly, offering subscribers the flexibility to customize fixed 5G speeds and select data, minutes, and SMS message allocations for the mobile SIMs.

In November, Rain unveiled a new “skinnable” 5G router with AX3600 Wi-Fi support and adjusted the base price of Rain One to R595 per month. Notably, Rain has affirmed that there will be no price hikes for Rain One packages in May.

Regarding mobile services, Rain stated, “In terms of mobile, top-up gigs, minutes, and SMS — [these] remain at the current prices, as do level-ups and speed-ups.”
