Busha, Women in DeFi Partner to Support Women in Digital Finance

Pan-African financial services company Busha has partnered with Women in DeFi (WiD) to support more women pursuing careers in technology, blockchain, Web3 and digital finance across Africa.

The partnership was announced at the Women in DeFi Summit 2026 in Lagos, where five young women received laptop scholarships to support their education, career development and entrepreneurial goals. The scholarships mark the first initiative under the collaboration, which will also introduce programmes focused on digital skills and financial education.

Partnership Targets Skills and Career Development

According to McKinsey’s 2025 report, The Quest for Gender Parity in African Tech, women make up about 47% of STEM graduates across Africa but account for only 23% to 30% of the technology workforce.

Busha and Women in DeFi said the partnership aims to help narrow that gap by improving access to technology, skills development, professional networks and career opportunities within the digital economy. The laptop scholarship programme supports five beneficiaries who are already pursuing careers in technology, digital finance, design and related sectors.

One of the recipients, Peace Toluwanimi Omosehin, a pharmacy student, said the scholarship would help her transition into pharmacy informatics after graduation by building skills in healthcare technology and data analytics.

The partners also plan to introduce WiD Goes to School, an outreach programme that promotes careers in technology, blockchain and digital finance among young women. Other initiatives include a Six-Month Savings Challenge, supported by Busha’s savings product, and an Introduction to Web3 Programme covering blockchain technology, decentralised finance and other emerging digital technologies.

Busha said women represent approximately 47% of its workforce, while they hold more than 30% of management positions. The company said those figures reflect its commitment to increasing women’s participation across the technology and financial services sectors.
