Tech4Dev Launches Women Techsters Sprint Programme in Ghana

Nigerian technology skills nonprofit Tech4Dev has opened applications for its Women Techsters Sprint Programme in Ghana, giving women with foundational digital skills an opportunity to advance into professional careers in data science, cybersecurity and software development.

The virtual programme is designed for women who already have a basic understanding of digital technologies and want to develop the technical expertise needed to compete for roles in the technology sector. Participants will receive instructor-led training, hands-on project experience, mentorship, employability coaching and complete a capstone project. Applications are open to women aged 18 to 40 who are resident in Ghana.

Building on Women Techsters Ghana Week

The Sprint Programme forms part of the broader Women Techsters Programme, which Tech4Dev says is Africa’s largest women-focused technology initiative, currently operating in 30 African countries.

Its launch in Ghana follows the successful Women Techsters Ghana Week, which brought together aspiring technologists, employers and industry experts through activities including an artificial intelligence masterclass, an employers’ roundtable and a networking mixer. The initiative aimed to expose women to career opportunities while strengthening connections with potential employers and technology professionals. While Ghana Week introduced participants to the technology ecosystem, the Sprint Programme is intended to help them build specialised skills that improve their employment prospects.

Closing the Skills Gap

According to Abraham Akpan, Tech4Dev’s Country Manager for Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa, the programme extends the organisation’s efforts to create long-term opportunities for women across Africa’s growing digital economy.

He said the success of Women Techsters Ghana Week demonstrated the value of connecting women with industry partners, mentors and learning opportunities, while the Sprint Programme provides the next stage by equipping participants with advanced technical skills.

Tech4Dev’s Head of Programmes, Blessing Bamidele, said many learners complete introductory technology courses but still struggle to secure employment because they lack practical experience and specialised expertise. She explained that the Sprint Programme is designed to bridge that gap by combining technical training with real-world projects and career development support.

Part of a Growing Skills Development Drive

The programme joins a growing number of digital skills initiatives being rolled out across Africa to prepare more young people for careers in technology.

Tech4Dev is already working with Microsoft as part of the company’s commitment to equip one million Nigerians with artificial intelligence and digital skills. Other recent initiatives include the Tomorrow Foundation’s partnership to deliver the Thunderbird/Arizona State University 100 Million Learners programme in Nigeria, Cassava Technologies’ support for the AI Skills and Compute Africa Foundation, and Google’s Hustle Academy, which reopened applications for its 2026 cohort in South Africa, Kenya and Nigeria.

The Women Techsters Sprint Programme focuses on women who already have foundational digital skills and are ready to move into specialised technical training. Its long-term impact will be measured by how many participants secure employment or build sustainable careers in Ghana’s growing technology sector.
