Flutterwave Secures Circle Ventures Investment to Expand USDC Payments

Nigerian fintech company Flutterwave has secured a strategic investment from Circle Ventures, the venture capital arm of Circle Internet Group. The funding will accelerate the integration of USDC stablecoin settlement into Flutterwave’s payments platform. The companies did not disclose the value of the investment. Flutterwave said the funding will help businesses settle transactions in USDC alongside existing payment methods.
Founded in 2016, Flutterwave develops digital payments infrastructure that connects African businesses to local and global markets. Its platform enables banks, merchants and enterprises to process multiple payment methods through a single API. This removes the need for multiple payment integrations and simplifies cross-border transactions. To date, Flutterwave has processed more than US$40 billion in payments and facilitated over one billion transactions across Africa.
The investment follows Flutterwave’s participation in the launch of the Circle Payments Network in 2025. It also comes shortly after the company completed a Series E funding round that valued the business at US$3.2 billion.
Expanding USDC Settlement
Flutterwave plans to integrate USDC settlement directly into its existing payments infrastructure. The move will allow merchants to accept local payments while settling transactions in the dollar-backed stablecoin. The company expects the system to reduce settlement delays and lower transaction costs. It will also enable near-instant cross-border payments beyond traditional banking hours.
Flutterwave said the initiative forms part of its broader strategy to make stablecoins a core part of Africa’s financial infrastructure. The company will provide blockchain-based settlement within a compliance-first framework that aligns with existing regulatory requirements and enterprise standards.
CEO Outlines Long Term Vision
“This support from Circle Ventures is about backing the rails that will power the next era of global money movement from Africa. Stablecoins like USDC are no longer an experiment; they are becoming core financial infrastructure,” said Flutterwave founder and chief executive Olugbenga “GB” Agboola.
“By embedding USDC settlement into our current payments infrastructure, we are building a system that lets businesses move money at the speed of the internet. This fundamentally changes how payments from Africa connect to the world and positions Flutterwave as the default stablecoin gateway for the continent.”
