Meet KIA’s van of the future packed with advanced technologies

Kia has unveiled its plan to revolutionize the commercial vehicle industry with the Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) business, announced at the 2024 CES show in Las Vegas.

The strategy begins with a new modular vehicle, showcased by the Kia PV5 Concept, and will progress through multiple phases to introduce advanced technologies. The PBV’s customisation concept is set to be part of phase three and incorporates a ‘Dynamic Hybrid’ weld-less body structure assembly.

This technology enables flexible adjustments in the length of moveable members according to the vehicle’s use. The Kia PV5 base vehicle, shipped in kit form, can be easily transformed in the field using Dynamic Hybrid technology.

In phase one, Kia will introduce the PV5, an electric vehicle designed for industries like hailing, delivery, and utilities, with conversion capability for various customer needs. The second phase will expand the PBV model lineup, featuring larger and smaller offerings, evolving into AI-based mobility platforms with enhanced data connectivity.

This connectivity will enable convenient operation of multiple vehicles as a software-defined fleet.

In addition, PBVs will interact with users using data and stay updated, while new business forms linked with robotics and future technologies, including autonomous driving, will emerge.
