Voices of Africa “Founder Fridays”

In an age where social media can often feel fleeting, one digital community has stood the test of time growing not only in numbers but in purpose. Boss Babes of South Africa (BBSA), founded by trailblazer Kovini Moodley, is proudly celebrating five years of transforming inspiration into action and challenges into opportunities.
What began in 2020 during the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic has evolved into one of South Africa’s largest organically grown digital empowerment platforms. With more than 140,000 followers across Instagram and LinkedIn, BBSA has become a hub for mentorship, skill-sharing, humour, and the celebration of local excellence. It shines a spotlight on proudly South African businesses, giving emerging brands the visibility they need to thrive.
From Pandemic Project to National Movement
For Moodley, launching BBSA at the height of a global crisis was both a bold risk and a heartfelt mission. The platform was designed to inspire women to rise above adversity, but over the years, its reach has expanded to embrace all South Africans with a vision of turning “pain into power.”
“Everyone has the power to contribute,” says Moodley. “Boss Babes of South Africa is for South Africans by South Africans, and knowledge is power. Our community’s willingness to share their skills and stories is what sets us apart.”
Celebrating Women’s Month with #ShareSisonke
To mark its fifth anniversary and Women’s Month 2025, BBSA has launched #ShareSisonke, a skill-sharing initiative that offers free access to professional expertise in health, wellness, finance, life coaching, labour law, marketing, mental health, and more. This initiative builds on BBSA’s ethos of empowering people with practical tools, while simultaneously giving entrepreneurs and professionals a platform to market their services at no cost.
The response has been overwhelming. Community members have eagerly stepped forward, not only to offer their knowledge but also to connect with others who share a passion for positive change.

The Woman Behind the Movement

The Visionary Leading the Charge
A Chartered Accountant and highly regarded risk specialist, Moodley draws her inspiration from her upbringing in Shallcross, a small-town south of Durban. Her journey from humble beginnings to national influencer is grounded in a commitment to social justice and community upliftment.
“I love South Africa it represents home to me,” she reflects. “Beyond the titles and statuses that we hold, our legacy and ability to give back is most important.”
Building a Legacy of Empowerment
As BBSA moves into its next chapter, its focus remains steadfast: creating spaces where knowledge is shared freely, local businesses are championed, and diverse voices are amplified. In a digital landscape often dominated by fleeting trends, BBSA stands out as a lasting force for good a place where stories inspire, skills empower, and South Africans unite to lift each other higher.
