Global cybersecurity company Palo Alto Networks is increasing its focus on Africa as digital transformation accelerates, and cyber risks intensify across the continent. With more than 70,000 organisations relying on its AI-powered security platforms worldwide, the company says protecting critical infrastructure and digital systems has become directly tied to economic stability.

As Africa’s digital economy expands, so does its exposure. According to industry insights shared by the company, attackers can now move from initial access to data theft in as little as 72 minutes, said Adriaan Joubert, Manager Technical Solutions. Organisations no longer have days to detect breaches they have minutes. This compressed timeline has exposed structural weaknesses in enterprises that depend on manual processes, siloed security systems or delayed response protocols.
Africa’s growing digital footprint and geopolitical positioning are increasing its attractiveness to cybercriminals and nation-state actors. As businesses expand cloud infrastructure, online services and interconnected systems, vulnerabilities multiply when security architecture fails to evolve at the same pace. Increasingly, attackers are not breaking through firewalls but logging in using stolen credentials, highlighting weaknesses in identity and access management.
