Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence start-up xAI recently revealed the new Grok-2 and Grok-2 Mini, which is outperforming other large language models from OpenAI and Anthropic.
It was released in an early preview that Grok-2 offers more improvements than the previous Grok-1.5, with more built-in and versatile outputs that can carry variety of tasks. The models’ capabilities have been improved with Grok-2 where it is able to identify missing information in a piece of content and sequence of events. The Grok-2 AI assistance has other advanced abilities in text and vision where it understands and combines information on X formally Twitter.
An early version of the model which was under the name sus-column-r, outperformed both Anthropic’s Claude 3.5 Sonnet and OpenAI GPT-4 on the industry standard LMSYS Chatbot Arena.
Grok-2 mini is a small and faster version of Grok-2. Both the Grok-2 and Grok-2 mini are available in beta on X with a premium subscription for $8 (R142.39) a month.
Musk’s company is working together with Black Forest Labs, a startup that is specializing in AI, for its image generator, where it is implement the FLUX.1 model from the startup to enhance Grok’s mage capabilities.
The enterprise API will also have this feature by the end of August, with a smaller version being more cost-effective to operate while still delivering enough performance.
xAI has not announced the detailed specifications of the underlying database of the Grok-2 models. The release of the Grok-2 and Grok-2 mini shows the evolution of AI in both conversational and coding tasks.
