Apple Explores Integration of OpenAI's Generative AI in Upcoming iPhone Features

According to a report by Bloomberg News, Apple has resumed discussions with OpenAI regarding the incorporation of the start-up’s generative AI technology into new features set to debut on the iPhone later this year.

Close sources to the matter revealed that the two companies have initiated talks on the terms of a potential agreement and the integration of OpenAI’s features into Apple’s upcoming iPhone operating system, iOS 18.

As of now, neither Apple nor OpenAI has provided official comments on the ongoing discussions.

This development follows Bloomberg’s previous report, which stated that Apple was considering licensing Google’s Gemini chatbot for new iPhone features. While Apple has yet to finalize its decision on potential partners, it remains open to the possibility of reaching agreements with both OpenAI and Google, or exploring alternative providers.

Unlike its competitors such as Microsoft and Google, which have already incorporated generative AI capabilities into their products, Apple has been comparatively slower in adopting this technology.

In February, Apple CEO Tim Cook acknowledged the company’s significant investment in generative AI and hinted at unveiling further details about its utilization later this year.
