Volvo is entering the premium electric SUV space with the new EX60, a midsize battery-electric model built on the SPA3 Scalable Product Architecture 3 platform. The range will launch with three variants P6, P10 AWD and P12 AWD giving buyers a choice between rear-wheel drive and dual-motor all-wheel drive. Volvo is also placing a strong focus on range and fast-charging capability for drivers who cover longer distances.
P6 Single-motor rear-wheel drive
The EX60 lineup starts with the P6, the only version to use a single-motor setup. A rear-mounted electric motor delivers 275 kW and 480 N.m, and Volvo claims a 0–100 km/h time of 5.9 seconds. Power comes from an 83 kWh (gross) battery pack, with DC fast charging support of up to 320 kW. Volvo quotes a driving range of up to 620 km on a full charge.
P10 AWD and P12 AWD: Dual-motor performance options
The P10 AWD adds a second motor for all-wheel drive, lifting combined output to 375 kW and 710 N.m. Volvo claims this version will accelerate from 0–100 km/h in 4.6 seconds. The P10 uses a 95 kWh (gross) battery and increases peak DC charging to 370 kW, with a claimed range of up to 660 km.
The P12 AWD is the most powerful EX60 variant, using twin motors producing 500 kW and 790 N.m. Volvo claims a 0–100 km/h time of 3.9 seconds. A larger 117 kWh (gross) battery supports a quoted range of up to 810 km. Volvo also says a 400 kW DC fast charge can add up to 340 km of range in 10 minutes, depending on access to high-output charging infrastructure.
Size, interior tech and safety upgrades
In terms of dimensions the EX60 measures 4,803 mm in length and 1,908 mm in width. Volvo says this makes it 115 mm longer and 6 mm wider than the XC60. The wheelbase stretches to 2,970 mm—105 mm longer than the XC60’s which should translate into more cabin space. Boot capacity is listed at 523 litres.
Volvo South Africa has confirmed the EX60 will arrive locally in the third quarter of 2026, as more brands expand their electric SUV offerings for buyers moving away from petrol and diesel.
Inside, the EX60 centres around a large landscape-oriented infotainment screen that serves as the main control hub. The system runs Android Automotive OS and includes Gemini, Google’s in-car assistant, while Apple Music comes pre-installed with Dolby Atmos support. A slim digital instrument cluster sits ahead of the two-spoke multifunction steering wheel, and buyers can opt for a 28-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system.
Volvo says the EX60 will receive regular over-the-air updates, allowing features and functions to evolve without a workshop visit. On the safety side, the EX60 introduces Volvo’s multi-adaptive safety belt technology, which the company says adjusts front occupant restraint response based on conditions and passenger profiles.
