Truecaller Introduces Web Version with Enhanced Features for Android Users in India

Truecaller, the widely popular caller ID application, has expanded its offerings with the launch of a web version, bringing a host of features to desktop users. The new web iteration, dubbed Truecaller for Web, encompasses functionalities such as SMS and chat mirroring, call notifications, and number search capabilities. Initially, this web version will be exclusively available to Android users in India, with plans for a broader rollout to other regions in the future, according to the company’s announcement.

Android users in India can now seamlessly link their devices to the web client on both PCs and Macs using a QR code. Presently, Truecaller imposes certain restrictions, allowing only one active web session per user and automatically logging out users after 30 days of inactivity. Users also have the option to manually disconnect a browser from settings, mirroring the functionality of web versions of messaging platforms like WhatsApp or Telegram.

Despite being a late entrant to the SMS and chat mirroring domain, Truecaller aims to provide its users with added convenience in responding to texts swiftly and accessing one-time passwords (OTPs) for authentication. While Microsoft already offers SMS mirroring for Android and iPhone users on Windows through its Phone Link feature, Truecaller’s offering seeks to cater to its vast user base, especially in its largest market, India, boasting nearly 259 million users.

In addition to SMS and chat mirroring, Truecaller for Web enhances the number lookup functionality, allowing users to search for phone numbers without encountering rate limits as experienced on the website. Furthermore, the web client displays real-time caller ID notifications when a call is received, enriching the user experience.

Truecaller’s strategic focus on integrating AI-powered features has been evident in recent months. The introduction of the “Max” feature update for Android users enables blocking of calls from unapproved contacts or spam identified by AI. Additionally, the company introduced call recording and AI-powered transcription features in India, following their successful rollout in the US last year.

Despite facing challenges such as lower revenues in recent quarters, Truecaller has demonstrated resilience, with its stock experiencing fluctuations but ultimately rebounding from a dip in October 2023. At present, the stock has recovered from its low point, reflecting a positive trajectory.
