Suzuki Launches New Across SUV in South Africa

Suzuki has officially launched the new Across in South Africa, introducing its latest SUV positioned between the Fronx and the Grand Vitara.

Described as its most advanced SUV yet, the Across combines modern styling with advanced technology and strong safety features. It also offers a practical, family-friendly design. The model uses an efficient mild-hybrid petrol engine and is available in three specifications. Pricing starts at an entry-level point yet to be confirmed.

Engine and Performance

The Across range is powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with mild-hybrid (MHEV) technology. It produces 76kW and 137Nm, with power sent to the front wheels.

The entry-level G model is available with a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. The range-topping GLX is only offered with the automatic.

The mild-hybrid system uses an integrated starter generator. This system assists the engine under load and recovers energy during deceleration. The energy is stored in a 12V lithium-ion battery.

A Stop/Start function helps reduce fuel consumption when the vehicle is stationary. As a result, the Across achieves an average fuel consumption of 5.3l/100km.

Exterior Design

The Across features a modern front-end design with narrow LED projector headlamps and integrated daytime running lights. A satin chrome strip connects the lights across the upper grille.

It also includes a large trapezoidal lower intake and an aluminium-look front underguard. Compact circular fog lamps sit within a piano-black frame.

The GL model comes with 17-inch alloy wheels. The GLX upgrades to dual-tone machined alloy rims. Both versions use 215/60 profile tyres and include a full-size spare.

At the rear, the Across features a full-width LED taillight cluster with 19 segments. It also includes an integrated rear spoiler, aluminium-look skid plate, and roof rails.

Buyers can choose from several colour options. These include Arctic White Pearl, Splendid Silver Pearl Metallic, Mystic Green Pearl, Magma Grey Metallic, Sizzling Red Metallic, Exuberant Blue Pearl Metallic, and Bluish Black Pearl. The GLX also offers three-tone paint options with a contrasting black roof.

Interior and Features

Inside, the Across features a clean and modern layout. It includes a three-level dashboard, stitched upholstery, and chrome accents.

Practical features include an illuminated glove box, four cup holders, and four bottle holders. There is also a large centre console with an armrest, a wireless charger, and two 12V sockets.

Standard features on the GL include a height-adjustable driver’s seat and fabric upholstery. It also includes automatic climate control, a multifunction steering wheel, and an electric tailgate.

Safety and convenience features include six airbags, cruise control, hill assist, rear parking sensors, and a reverse camera.

The cabin includes a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch infotainment system. The system supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Automatic models also include an electronic handbrake and paddle shifters.

GLX Upgrades and Safety

The GLX adds several premium features. These include synthetic leather seats with copper stitching and an eight-way electric driver’s seat. It also includes ventilated front seats, a leather steering wheel, and a head-up display.

Additional features include a Harman Infinity sound system, a 360-degree camera, and 64-colour ambient lighting. A panoramic sunroof is also included.

The GLX expands the safety suite with front parking sensors and adaptive cruise control. It also adds automatic emergency braking and lane departure warning.
