Stellar 2024 General Election News Coverage: Minister Mondli Gungubele

The Minister for Communications and Digital Technologies, Mondli Gungubele has congratulated the SABC on its coverage of the 2024 7th National and Provincial Elections.

In a statement that was shared with Business Tech Africa, the broadcaster was the primary source of information for South African citizens, providing international standard broadcast feed and live coverage of all IEC related content in all official languages in accordance to its mandate.

Minister Gungubele says this was crucial in ensuring that South Africans are not only kept informed, but play their part as observers and protectors of their own democracy. “We applaud the SABC on the successful coverage of the elections. Their achievement of this feet guaranteed that South Africans participate actively in this important process in the life of this country,” says the Minister.

The SABC’s audience reach, excluding the Channel Africa Platform, was 26 949 000 for the week, SABC terrestrial TV audience was 11 368 896 on a daily average, and SABC+ had 7 125 491 views. The Minister adds that the entity’s use of its digital platform, SABC+ livestream, was an important step towards ushering citizens to a digital news consumption future.

Minister Gungubele also extends his congratulatory message to all media stakeholders who also contributed in the important role of keeping South Africans abreast throughout the elections.
