Spotify, the music streaming and podcasts platform, is now adding something new to its platform: online courses. These courses, called Spotify Courses, are like videos you can watch to learn different things. They’re starting with a test in the U.K. to see how people like them.

Spotify’s online courses are made with help from other companies like the BBC and Skillshare. Each course will have at least two free lessons. If you want to take the whole course, it will cost between £20 to £80 on average. It doesn’t matter if you use Spotify for free or pay for it; the prices are the same, at least for now.

Mohit Jitani, who works at Spotify and helps with these courses, says they’re trying different prices to see what people like best. They want to make the courses exciting and interesting for users.

You can find the courses on Spotify’s website and in the Spotify app. They cover a lot of different topics, like music production, using Excel, and even making your own online courses.

Some courses might also come with extra stuff to read or do, but most of them are just videos you can watch. Jitani didn’t say if there will be any games or other fun things in the future.

Spotify is working with partners like Skillshare and the BBC to decide which courses to offer. They’ll look at what people are already interested in on Spotify to help choose. There’s no limit to the topics they might cover.

When you buy a course, the money goes to the people who made it and to Spotify. They’re still deciding how much each person will get. They haven’t said if there will be any discounts for people who already pay for Spotify.

Spotify is doing this in order to keep growing and make more money. The U.K. is a big market for them, so they’re starting there. Even though Spotify has had some financial troubles in the past, they think this could help.

Spotify also knows a lot about what people do on their platform, like listening to podcasts. They’ve noticed that many people who listen to podcasts are also interested in learning new things. So, they’re hoping that people who like podcasts will also like these courses.

Spotify has been trying to do more with videos for a long time. Even though they’re not as big as YouTube or Netflix yet, they’re trying to get better. They just started showing music videos, and now they’re doing online courses too. Maybe this will help them grow even more.
