Rivian, the electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, has unveiled a new promotion enticing customers to switch from gas-powered trucks and SUVs to their electric counterparts. The promotion, which commenced on April 22, offers discounts of up to $5,000 along with a year of complimentary charging for eligible trade-ins.

Targeting some of the most popular gas-powered trucks and SUVs on the market, including the Ford F-150, Toyota Tacoma, and Jeep Wrangler, Rivian aims to incentivize consumers to embrace electric mobility. The promotion extends even to vehicles from German automakers Audi and BMW. Discount amounts range from $1,000 to $5,000, depending on the model being traded in.

Announcing the “electric upgrade offer” through email and social media channels on Monday, Rivian seeks to capitalize on a market where demand for premium EVs has softened. This move aligns with industry trends as other automakers like Ford, Lucid, and Tesla have also adjusted prices to stimulate demand.

Despite facing challenges in a market where gas-powered vehicles and hybrids remain popular due to their steady sales and profit margins, Rivian aims to carve out a niche for itself. With a projected production volume of approximately 57,000 EVs in 2024, the company may not rival top-selling trucks immediately, but such promotions could help it attract a new segment of customers.

To qualify for the trade-in promotion, customers must own specific gas-powered vehicles meeting the eligibility criteria. These include various models from Ford, Toyota, and Jeep, as well as select Audi and BMW vehicles manufactured in 2018 or later.

The promotion applies to both leasing and purchasing options, with customers required to take delivery of their new vehicle by June 30. Additionally, Rivian sweetens the deal by offering a year of complimentary charging at any of its owned charging stations across the United States. Although Rivian’s fast-charging network, branded as the Rivian Adventure Network, is not as extensive as Tesla’s Supercharging network, it still provides convenient access to charging stations in several states, including Arizona, California, Oregon, and Washington, among others.

With this trade-in promotion and complimentary charging offer, Rivian aims to accelerate the transition to electric mobility while providing added value and convenience to its customers across the United States.
