Mercedes-Benz South Africa has announced that CEO-designate Abey Kgotle is resigning due to personal reasons, less than a month before he was scheduled to assume the position.

Kgotle, who has been with Mercedes-Benz South Africa since 2017, was appointed in June to succeed Andreas Brand as head of the company’s South African operations.

Brand, originally set to move to Stuttgart on 30 November to take on a global production role overseeing seven Mercedes-Benz plants, will now remain as CEO until further notice, the company said.

Currently, Kgotle serves as the executive director for human resources and corporate affairs. He will officially step down on 30 November. The company did not provide further details regarding the personal reasons behind his departure.
