Glovo partners up with Siltech to introduce EV delivery services in select areas of Lagos

In a ground-breaking move set to transform Nigeria’s food delivery landscape, leading food delivery startup Glovo has partnered with prominent electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Siltech to introduce EV delivery services in select areas of Lagos. This collaboration aims to deliver significant cost savings and environmental benefits.

The high cost of petrol has long been a burden on Nigerian businesses, prompting many to seek alternative solutions. Electric vehicles have emerged as a viable option, and Glovo’s partnership with Siltech is a proactive step towards leveraging EVs for delivery operations.

Tolu Williams, CEO of Siltech, confirmed the partnership, noting that Glovo will utilize Siltech’s comprehensive EV service ecosystem. This includes access to charging stations, after-sales services, technical support, and battery swap facilities. The initial pilot program will launch in Ikate, Lekki, and Victoria Island, Lagos, where Siltech has established charging and battery swap stations.

A key feature of this partnership is the integration of Siltech’s battery swap technology. Glovo riders will use Siltech Ginsu bikes, which can swap drained batteries for fully charged ones in minutes. This innovation eliminates lengthy charging times, ensuring efficient and seamless delivery operations.

Although the partnership has been formalized, a Glovo spokesperson indicated that EV bike deliveries would not commence for a few months. When the service launches, Tolu Williams expects a significant cost reduction in EV services, as Siltech will provide multiple services to Glovo at a discounted rate, making it more cost-effective than using petrol-powered vehicles.

Siltech’s evolution from manufacturing EVs to offering a full EV service ecosystem has positioned the company as an industry leader. Siltech already serves Tesla owners and a growing number of EV users who utilize their ecosystem for charging and other EV-related services.

The partnership between Glovo and Siltech marks a significant step towards sustainability and cost-efficiency in the food delivery industry.
