Djibouti Launches Digital Platform to Connect Job Seekers and Employers

Djibouti’s Ministry of Labor, responsible for Formalization and Social Protection, has launched Djibouti Emploi, a digital platform designed to connect job seekers, employers and public agencies. The ministry unveiled the platform on August 24, describing it as a single portal for employment-related services. It is intended to make it easier for companies to recruit workers, help people access employment opportunities and improve coordination between institutions involved in the labour market.

The launch comes as many people in Djibouti continue to face difficulties finding work. The World Bank’s Djibouti Economic Monitor, published in May 2026, found that 51.8% of the working-age population was outside the labour force based on data collected during the first two quarters of 2025.

Youth and Graduates Face Employment Challenges

Young people face particular difficulties entering the labour market. According to the World Bank, 46.2% of people aged 16 to 24 were not in employment, education or training in 2025. The employment gap also affects people with higher levels of education. Those with upper-secondary or tertiary qualifications accounted for 40.3% of unemployed people, pointing to difficulties in matching available skills with suitable jobs.

Djibouti Emploi is intended to make that connection easier by bringing job seekers and employers onto the same platform while giving public agencies a central point for employment services. The platform also comes as Djibouti works to reduce informal employment. Informal employment accounted for 52.7% of jobs, according to the World Bank, limiting access to formal social protection for many workers.
