According to the online service reporting website Downdetector, Capitec clients have been experiencing major issues with the Capitec Banking App from around 12H00 this afternoon.

Capitec bank has issued a statement saying that they are aware of the issue and have apologized to customers for the service interruptions.

The Bank has stated that the interuptions were not due to a security incident or cyberattack, but rather a botched update of their cybersecurity program. 

No online banking or App banking services are available, however Capitec has said that card transactions are still available.

No indication has been given as to when the banking services are expected to be restored.
