A Homegrown Technological Milestone

The ITAOUA, named after a village in Tanghin-Dassouri, Kadiogo Province, reflects Burkina Faso’s innovation and cultural identity. Engineers design and assemble the vehicle in Ouaga, one of the districts in the capital, Ouagadougou. This development marks a significant milestone in building local industrial capabilities. Moreover, it opens up opportunities for young Burkinabe engineers and SMEs in the manufacturing sector while advancing the country’s commitment to environmental sustainability through renewable energy.

Impressive Performance and Eco-Friendly Design

The ITAOUA delivers a 330-kilometer range on a single charge and recharges in just 30 minutes. Its solar-powered system takes full advantage of Burkina Faso’s abundant sunlight, making it a practical and sustainable option for both urban and rural users. The vehicle also includes a touchscreen dashboard, GPS, Bluetooth, ABS brakes, and traction control. These features position the ITAOUA as a strong competitor in the expanding African electric vehicle market.

Economic and Industrial Impact

Beyond environmental benefits, the ITAOUA drives economic growth by creating jobs and reducing dependency on imported vehicles. The production facility provides employment for youth in engineering, supply chain logistics, sales, maintenance, and technical support. This inclusive strategy benefits a wide range of communities. According to Mordor Intelligence, Africa’s electric vehicle market was worth $11.94 billion in 2021. It is expected to reach $21.39 billion by 2027, growing at a rate of 10.2 percent annually. Clearly, Burkina Faso is on track to contribute to this market growth read more here

A Vision for Sustainable Transportation

The ITAOUA supports Burkina Faso’s broader vision of sustainable transportation and clean energy leadership. By investing in local manufacturing and renewable technologies, the country positions itself as a front runner in eco-friendly mobility across Africa. This model not only addresses environmental concerns but also inspires other African nations to innovate and adopt green technologies. In every sense, the launch of the ITAOUA symbolizes a major step forward in the nation’s pursuit of sustainability and technological advancement.
