Urban reveals two-door Land Rover Defender pickup

British vehicle customisation company Urban Automotive has introduced a pickup version of the current generation Land Rover Defender. The body style has been absent from the Defender range since Land Rover redesigned the model. Called the Widetrack Avontur, the vehicle is based on the Defender 110 Hard Top commercial model. It made its public debut at the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Reworking the Defender

Urban’s conversion goes beyond the usual exterior upgrades. The company removed the Defender’s rear section and replaced it with a custom built cargo bed. The result is a two door pickup that retains the SUV’s distinctive front end design. The project also includes wider body panels, a redesigned bonnet, a roll bar and several carbon-fibre components built specifically for the vehicle.

A pickup with a different focus

The Widetrack Avontur is aimed at buyers who want something different from a standard Defender. It retains a functional load bed. However, the focus is on design and exclusivity rather than outright utility. Large alloy wheels, a wider stance and Urban’s signature styling give the pickup a more distinctive look. Even so, it remains instantly recognisable as a Defender.

Filling a gap in the range

Land Rover has not announced plans to produce a pickup version of the current Defender. That has left independent companies like Urban to explore the concept.
