That’s down from the 25% Trump had said would kick in on Aug. 1 if a deal was not reached. Trump commented on social media platform Truth Social,: This Deal will create Hundreds of Thousands of Jobs — There has never been anything like it,” Trump posted noting that Japan was also investing $550 billion into the U.S. He said Japan would also “open” its economy to American autos and rice. Japan to Move on Chinese Steel Imports
Japan trade and finance ministries have announced it is to launch an anti-dumping commission into nickel-based stainless cold-rolled steel sheets and strips from China and Taiwan. This follows a petition from major steel manufacturer Nippon Steel, who have claimed that falling domestic demand has forced them to lower prices due to the markets being flooded with cheaper imports. The industry commission is anticipated to take a year to conclude its investigation that, will determine whether anti-dumping duties should be imposed on China and other nations.
According to the petition, imports were priced 20–50% below Chinese domestic levels and as much as 20% below Taiwanese prices. The probe comes amid global concerns over Chinese steel overcapacity and subsidized exports, which have distorted global markets. While other countries have imposed anti-dumping measures against China, Japan has yet to act. Meantime, Taiwan’s economy ministry said it would support affected firms to protect export interests.
