IMF Approves $250 Credit Facility for Rwanda on Positive Growth
The International Monetary Fund on Monday said its executive board approved Rwanda’s request for a new $250 million, 38-month extended credit facility to help it deal with tighter global financial conditions, while protecting social and development spending. The global lender said in a statement its board approved the new facility and authorized an immediate disbursement of $35.7 million. The IMF statement gave specific details about Rwanda’s economy. IMF Deputy Managing Director Bo Li said risks to the Rwandan economy were tilted to the downside, and urged Rwandan authorities to focus on fiscal consolidation, increasing revenue sources and enhancing monitoring of capital spending and other fiscal risks. Encouragingly, Rwanda’s economic growth has far surpassed market expectations to reach 9.4% in 2025, however the war in the Middle East was expected to slow growth to around 6.8% in 2026.
Global AI IPO/ Tech Rush
OpenAI announced yesterday that it had made a confidential filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission to pursue an initial public offering (IPO) at some point in the future. “We have not decided on timing yet; it may be a while because there are things we want to do that are likely easier as a private company,” the company said in a statement. OpenAI’s decision had however been anticipated for months, but the company’s filing now follows only one week after rival AI firm Anthropic said it was planning to list. SpaceX, Discord, Databricks and UK fintech Revolute are all set for listings this year. Overall, 2026 is shaping up to be one of the biggest IPO years in history, heavily powered by AI. The momentum in IPO’s reflects genuine long-term belief in the growing AI technology potential, but also the brutal economics of scaling it. Training and running frontier AI models is extraordinarily expensive. Companies like OpenAI, Anthropic, and others are burning billions annually on compute, data centres, and energy. OpenAI, is reportedly facing enormous funding shortfalls in the coming years despite strong revenue growth. Yesterday AI firm Perplexity also said it is planning to go public in 2028 regardless of how the market receives the listings of Anthropic and OpenAI, according to a CNBC report on Monday, citing an interview with CEO Aravind Srinivas.
Jeep Recalls Models Globally on Fire Safety Risk
Global Automaker Stellantis has given a global advisory today that it is recalling more than 1.3 million Jeep SUVs and trucks worldwide over fire concerns and urged owners to park away from structures or other vehicles until a fix is completed. The recall covers 2021-2025 model year Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Gladiator trucks over an electrical connection issue in the electric hydraulic power steering pump wiring, which in rare circumstances could cause combustible materials to overheat, potentially leading to a vehicle fire. The recall is a major concern that affects around 1.25 million vehicles world wide. Stellantis said the recall will involve inspecting and possibly repairing or replacing the wiring harness or electric hydraulic power steering pump. Stellantis said it is working to accelerate remedy availability and anticipates a recall fix no later than July. It said it had received reports of one potential injury tied to the issue but no crashes or fatalities.
