Oil From Africa – Future Continental Growth Opportunity

The head of one of Nigeria’s biggest energy companies, Wale Tinubu has stated in an interview with the BBC that the Strait of Hormuz crisis has accelerated the move away from renewables towards hydrocarbons in Africa, as countries ‘realise that energy security is a lot more important now than attempting to cleaning up the planet.’ This has presented a rare super development opportunity for African oil producers that will provide momentum in further development.

Tinubu, the Group Chief Executive of oil producer Oando, also said that the Iran conflict has significantly increased the demand for West African oil and gas, and now provides a significantly lower risk oil trade route from the west coast of Africa to the americas and to Europe. The “Arab Gulf for oil safety has been demystified”, Tinibu comments and hails Africa as an alternative to supplies from the Middle presenting an important opportunity for Africa.

Hopes of Iran Peace Deal Lift Metals and Asian Stocks

Gold held above $4,530 an ounce this morning after lifting more than 1% in the previous trading session. Copper futures traded around $6.28 per pound today after rising 2% in the previous session This was supported by growing optimism that an imminent peace agreement between the US and Iran could ease inflationary pressures and reduce concerns over interest rate hikes. President Donald Trump said the US was in the final stages of negotiations with Iran, raising expectations that the strategically important Strait of Hormuz may soon reopen. The prospect of restored shipping flows triggered a sharp decline in oil prices, helping temper inflation fears and lowering expectations that central banks will need to tighten monetary policy. Brent oil dropped from over $111 to around $104 a barrel yesterday but has lifted to around $10580 this morning.

Most Asian indexes are in positive territory this morning, with Japan’s Nikkei 225 Index jumping 3% to above 61,600 while the broader Topix Index gained 1.6% to 3,850. South Korea’s KOSPI index surged over 6% to around 7,680 on Thursday, rebounding sharply from the previous session as investor sentiment improved on easing geopolitical concerns. the Hang Seng Index (Hong Kong) and China’s Shanghai Composite, both lifted 0.5% today.

SpaceX IPO Likely in June 2026

SpaceX announced key IPO progress yesterday, filing its S-1 prospectus with the SEC for a Nasdaq listing under ticker SPCX. The company has accelerated its IPO timeline, with their prospectus made public recently, and a roadshow likely starting early June. The initial public offering (IPO) on the US stock market is set to be the largest in Wall Street history and could start next month under the ticker symbol SPCX. However a public roadshow and pricing indicator still needs to be confirmed. SpaceX values itself at $1.25tn. In the first three months of this year, it achieved $4.7 billion in sales but made a net loss of $4.3bn. Meanwhile, its balance sheet shows it has $102 billion in assets, such as rockets and other equipment, but also carries $60.5 billion in debt.

This is poised to be one of the largest IPOs ever, potentially raising $50-80+ billion at a $1.5-2 trillion valuation (driven by Starlink’s ~10M subscribers and growth, plus Starship ambitions). It would provide massive capital for rockets, AI/data centres, and expansion, while offering liquidity to insiders/employees
