Rwandan Presidential Elections Today: Although strictly speaking the voting commenced yesterday, at Rwandan Embassies, for Rwandan citizens outside the country, today marks the official Presidential election day. The three candidates include the current President, Paul Kagame, Frank Habineza, and Philippe Mpayimana.  Kagame is standing for is fourth term in office and he has effectively been in power for 30 years, since the Aftermath of the Rwandan genocide in 1994, is anticipated to win again.

Kenyan Police Investigations on Gruesome killing ground: The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) is conducting, what it called an “open and transparent” investigation into the discovery of at least nine mutilated bodies that were discovered at an abandoned quarry, less than 100 metres from the Kware police station South of the capital Nairobi. The investigation is to determine cause and if there was any police involvement in these deaths. This comes shortly after the Keyan Inspector General of police, Japhet Koome, who has served in the role since November 2022, resigned on Friday after the deaths of at least 39 Kenyans died in the recent tax revolt demonstrations.

Somali Prison Break leaves Eight People Dead: Eight people have been killed after a gun battle ensued between security forces and inmates at a prison in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu. According to news reports, this occurred on Saturday at the city’s main prison when armed inmates attempted an escape.
