Breaking News- CrowdStrike Update Crashes Worldwide
Early reports suggest Crowdstrike Falcon – a computer threat checker that is used by thousands of businesses worldwide, pushed out an update that might have caused a complete system failure on a host of computers. These include Airlines, Banking services, Media and Broadcast services and Government services.
The crash causes a complete Blue-Screen scenario where the whole system is shut down and inoperable. The fault seems to only affect Windows operating systems and results in what is known as the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD)
It is not know as yet what caused the fault but there are multiple reports across social media indication the error is widespread.
Broadcast studios such as Sky News are reported to be down as well as various broadcast companies in Australia, and Ryanair, one of the biggest airlines in Europe, also says it’s experiencing a “third-party” IT issue, which is impacting flight departures. Melbourne Airport is also experiencing problems with its check-in service and has issued a warning of a global technology issue which is impacting check-in procedures for some airlines. Passengers flying with these airlines today have been advised to allow for extra time to check-in.
In South Africa there has been a massive service issue with Capitec Bank services and it is not yet known if this is related to the Falcon update yet. some passengers have been unable to pay for tickets due to the service interruption (see below)
