AOW 2024, Africa’s foremost upstream and energy event, heralds a new era of innovation, collaboration, and deal-making pivotal in shaping Africa’s energy trajectory. Scheduled from 7—10 October 2024 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC), AOW arrives at a crucial juncture amidst a global energy transition.

As the continent grapples with the complexities of this transition, AOW emerges as a vital platform geared towards addressing Africa’s distinct energy needs, fostering socio-economic progress, and safeguarding the sovereignty of its natural resources.

Celebrating its 30th anniversary, AOW 2024 promises to revitalize its unparalleled government-access initiatives, uniting government officials, energy policymakers, industry titans, financiers, and dealmakers from the international oil-and-gas sector. Together, they will chart pathways to meet Africa’s evolving energy demands while propelling its developmental agenda.

In a bid to ensure real-time industry resonance, this year introduces a pioneering Executive Board and Advisory Sub-Committees comprising diverse and influential African energy stakeholders.

Yemi Ibidunni, AOW Event Director, asserts, “Since 1994, we’ve steadfastly championed Africa’s oil and gas sector development through sustainable carbon management strategies. This year, we prioritize government requirements by launching high-touch government-led programs.”

The core themes of AOW 2024 encompass the Equitable Development of the Upstream; Expansion of Gas Value Chains; Integration of New Energies; Adoption of Best-in-Class Technologies; and Access to Finance.

Central to AOW’s ethos is deal-making and accessing top financiers and investors across the continent. As Africa seeks substantial funding for oil, gas, renewables, and power infrastructure, AOW serves as a nexus for exploring diverse funding avenues.

Endorsed by The African Energy Commission (AFREC), the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy South Africa (DMRE), and Lean in Equity & Sustainability, AOW 2024 aspires to advance Africa’s energy investment and development goals on the global stage.

Yemi Ibidunni emphasizes, “We’re dedicated to fostering sustainable opportunities for African energy, serving as the premier global platform for transactions and deals.”

The cross-disciplinary Executive Board boasts luminaries such as Luca Vignati, Upstream Director for ENI; Lamé Verre, Advisory Board Chair for Lean in Equity & Sustainability; Unni Fjaer, Managing Director of Equinor Tanzania; Miguel Baptista, Managing Director of Central, East and Southern Africa at SLB; and Kadijah Amoah, Chief Executive Officer of Pecan Energies.

Rashid Ali Abdallah, Executive Director of AFREC, underscores the collaborative spirit, stating, “Through our partnership with AOW, we aim to synergize efforts towards advancing the sustainable development of Africa’s energy resources.”

AOW 2024 promises a convergence of industry leaders, government officials, and energy stakeholders, setting the stage for robust discussions, strategic collaborations, and transformative deals. As Africa’s premier energy platform, AOW continues to catalyze progress, innovation, and investment in the continent’s energy landscape.
